Meet our 2012 Beach Yoginis

Picture
For the third year running, our fully licensed, certified yoga teachers are bringing their passion for yoga to a beach near you! Whether you seek the physical, mental or spiritual benefits of yoga (or all three!), yoginis Angela, Amy and Julie have got you covered with their own style of beach yoga. From the Summer Solstice through mid-August, they will each bring their unique, inclusive teaching style to some of the most beautiful places in Michigan - and, we would argue, the world.

Our yoginis are thoughtfully shaping  the 2012 schedule.  Until then, feel free to contact them to share your input or feedback, or to connect at some of their other gigs this Spring:

Angela

Angela Poneta Dedenbach has been practicing yoga for nearly 15 years - and practicing life with an open heart for all of her days! Over the years, Angela has studied with various teachers throughout Michigan and beyond, exploring a number of styles including Hatha, Iyengar, Chakra, Bikram and Tantra Yoga.

Angela blessed the community for many years through her work with Parenting Communities of Leelanau. With PC, she helped to make many kinds of connections: amongst family members, building social networks through community organizing and events, helping families in need to connect with local resources. In May of 2010, Angela decided to take a different route in helping people to connect. Angela completed her Yoga Teacher Training certification with Sandra Carden at Union Yoga, and has taught a variety of classes, both privately and at such studios as Union Yoga and Blooming Lotus. Come and join Angela as she offers a fun-loving, down to earth experience which will be sure to open your heart and rejuvenate your body.

Amy

Picture
Amy Hubbell has practiced yoga for over a decade, and in recent years began to realize its profound health benefits, increasingly relying on her yoga practice to manage the stress of a nonprofit career in the urban jungle of Chicago.  A Michigan native with a background in psychology and public health, Amy decided to empower others to improve their own health through yoga. Following her heart from the Second City to picturesque Leelanau County in the Winter of 2010, Amy promptly completed her Yoga Teacher Training with Sandra Carden at Union Yoga, and has never looked back.

Since then, Amy has shared the healing world of yoga with hundreds of students in the region, from beginners to advanced yogis. She has taught classes, workshops and private sessions at studios including Union Yoga, Yen Yoga & Fitness and Blooming Lotus; The Homestead and Fountain Point resorts; and at private businesses and cottages. You'll want to catch Amy at the beach, though - she is right at home with the sand beneath her feet, the sun on her skin, and the sound of her soothing voice mingling with the crashing waves.

Julie

Rockstar yogini, renowned massage therapist, and supermom of 2, Julie Schwalm is sure to make your Yoga On The Beach experience simultaneously empowering AND healing. Julie began her yoga practice several years ago, as a way to help balance her busy life and many interests. After over a decade of nurturing others with deep tissue and Thai yoga massage, all while creating beautiful jewelry and sculpture with blown glass and single-handedly raising two boys, Julie decided to expand her abilities to care for the well-being of others even further by becoming a Certified Yoga Teacher.

After training under the dynamic auspices of Sandra Carden last spring, Julie began teaching a variety of yoga styles at Union/Yoga in Lake Leelanau, where you can see some of her fabulous glass work or book one of her soothing massages. She looks forward to the freedom and joy of teaching yoga on the beach this summer, and the challenge of imparting her yoga wisdom to both novices and seasoned practitioners. Join her for a practice that is sure to make you feel as grounded as the sand and as fluid as the waves.
